RHI Magnesita will act as a project coordinator and perform the following functions:

  • Management of technical and administrative affairs
RHI Magnesita will be responsible for all communication with the European Commission on behalf of the ReSoURCE consortium; it will manage, coordinate, and monitor the administrative affairs, such as compliance with the EU regulations in terms of budget and technical progress, to meet the project’s objectives. It will transmit the compiled information in form of a Report to the General Assembly during its biannual meetings.
  • Technical role in ReSoURCE:
The technical project team will take care of targeted material selection, refractory related material characterisation and finally the integration of ReSoURCE’s developments into their recycling operations. As well, it will act as a link to combine and exchange information and results of the different work packages and provide required inputs for life cycle assessment ant the techno-economic analysis.
  • Coordination of project meetings
RHI Magnesita will organise regular project meetings, including kick-off, mid-term, review, and final project discussions as well as biannual general assemblies.
  • Reporting to the European Commission
While all partners will contribute to the technical and administrative content, RHI Magnesita will be responsible for the timely and adequate reporting of the obtained information according to the requirements given by the European Commission.

LSA – Laser Analytical Systems & Automation GmbH

Laser Analytical Systems & Automation GmbH (LSA) is a SME company located in Aachen, Germany, with the mission to develop and to offer laser measurement systems based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for inline analytical measurements in industrial applications. LSA has gained more than 15 years experience in the development of robust and powerful LIBS systems for industry and has developed its own spectrometer platform as a key element for these systems enabling broadband, high resolving and high speed detection of line-rich LIBS spectra for multi-element analysis.

LSA´s role in the ReSoURCE project is the development of a LIBS unit for the inline characterisation of refractory materials in different size ranges, the fusion of these spectrometric information with geometric and hyperspectral data and finally the system integration of these modules into an analysing unit as part of a sorting plant provided by RHI Magnesita.

Norsk Elektro Optikk (NEO) AS

NEO is a research and development based company in the field of photonics. It offers project cooperation, rapid prototyping and manufacturing of advanced electro optical products for an international market. HySpex is the Hyperspectral Imaging Division of NEO.

HySpex is a research-based manufacturer of hyperspectral cameras with over 20 years of experience providing solutions for scientific and industrial applications. HySpex sensors are recognized for their scientific-grade accuracy and are used worldwide in the most demanding applications in the VNIR-SWIR spectral range.

The main task of NEO within the ReSoURCE project is based on Hyper Spectral Imaging that delivers spatially and spectrally resolved data of the material on the conveyor belt that is used as an input for the material classification, and – together with the input of the 3D geometry sensor – for preselection of ROI for control of the LIBS beam guiding system.

Fraunhofer ILT Institute for Laser Technology

To ReSoURCE, Fraunhofer ILT contributes with its expertise in material analysis, LIBS sorting, smart sensor combination and integration, as well as advanced spectral data processing.

Fraunhofer ILT is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which is one of the leading research institutions in Germany. With over 480 employees, more than 19,500 m² of net floor space and more than 40 spin-offs, Fraunhofer ILT is one of the most important contract research and development institutes in its field worldwide.

In laser measurement technology, the focus of interest is not only on classical quality and economic aspects in production, but also on questions of sustainability, circular economy, recycling and raw material efficiency. For example, customised processes and systems are developed for inline measurements of material composition in process lines, as well as in sensor-based sorting systems for recyclable materials.

Montanuniversität Leoben

Montanuniversität Leoben is the only university for mining and metallurgy in Austria, embedded in the beautiful Styrian landscape, between forests and small mountains. Their actions are aligned with five core guiding values: energy efficiency, climate neutrality, sustainability, zero waste, and circular design.

Their part within the ReSoURCE project is to establish a comprehensive waste management concept and characterise the refractory waste material regarding its chemical and mineralogical properties on the first hand and on the second hand to evaluate the feedstock characteristics and optimise pre-processing for subsequent automated sorting. Finding the most suitable comminution technology is an important prerequisite for efficient separation.
